Applications are invited for the appointment of a Research Librarian, Social Sciences in the Li Ka Shing Library, Singapore Management University.

SMU is a young and dynamic university and the Library plays a vital role in supporting the university’s teaching, learning and research activities.

This role provides an exciting opportunity for an innovative professional librarian to collaborate with the SMU community to provide convenient access to quality information, and to manage and provide access to SMU scholarship. The Library provides information services that are customisable to individual needs and which recognise disciplinary perspectives and their information requirements. The Library engages with the community to foster scholarship and strengthens the culture of collaboration and partnership within the University.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and experienced information professional to support learning, discovery and engagement at Singapore Management University through the delivery of a range of services designed to maximize the benefits of relevant scholarly information resources and services.

This position serves as the liaison for faculty and students from the School of Social Sciences and related programs. The position holder works in a team environment to create and develop innovative library products and services for the SMU community.

He/she is expected to design, implement and evaluate information literacy programmes for students (undergraduate and postgraduate) both as part of the curriculum and for skills development.

The position holder will also advocate and build an awareness of academic integrity and scholarship using appropriate programs and tools.


  1. MSc in Library and Information Science and an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline plus relevant experience in an academic setting
  2. An understanding of current trends in Research, Learning and Teaching within an academic institution
  3. Highly developed skills in the use of current technologies for the delivery of information services
  4. Knowledge of the principles of assessment and methods used in assessment on the design and implementation of appropriate services and resource development
  5. Ability to design, deliver and evaluate information literacy training relevant to individuals and groups at different levels
  6. Experience with or knowledge of bibliographic management software such as EndNote, EndNote Web, RefWorks, Mendeley, and Zotero.
  7. Familiarity with scholarly writing and citing processes, especially in research or academic setting.
  8. Creative and innovative with the ability to work with minimum supervision.
  9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  10. Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relations with faculty and staff
  11. High level of professionalism and commitment to the organization and the ability to work flexibly in a changing environment
