Yale-NUS College seeks a collaborative, self-directed and service-oriented professional to build collections, provide research assistance and information literacy instruction. This Senior Librarian/Librarian position will serve as Subject Librarian for the Social Sciences Division, working with students and faculty in the Division to support their research, learning, and teaching endeavors. You will undertake these responsibilities and lead in one or more of the following operational areas: collection management, instructional services, reference and research services, research data management, assessment, and digital services.

At Yale-NUS College Library, the role of Subject Librarian encompasses several areas of librarianship and necessitates that librarians in this role be flexible, knowledgeable, and at the forefront of developments in the dynamic information and research landscapes.  They are closely connected to the College and, specifically, to the students and faculty in the Social Sciences. You will collaborate with faculty, students and colleagues, promoting an engaged, proactive style of service supportive of the Yale-NUS College community of learning.

The duties include:

  • Serve as a liaison to the Social Sciences Division; continuously engage with faculty, students, and staff in the Social Sciences in order to develop positive and productive relationships.
  • Collaborate with the Library team and participate in developing and leading library programmes and projects.
  • Perform collection development in assigned subject areas to support curricular and research needs.
  • Develop and deliver information literacy workshops using current pedagogical approaches to help students efficiently locate and discerningly evaluate and use a variety of information resources.
  • Provide reference and research support services to students, faculty and staff.
  • Work with faculty to embed research and information literacy skills into the curriculum.
  • Develop, promote and assess library services in assigned operational areas. Provide training and documentation as required.
  • Create, develop and maintain instructional tools, aids, guides and web content for assigned areas.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and represent the Library in the College and locally.


  • Master’s degree in Information Studies or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience, preferably in an academic library.
  • Collaborative, self-directed and supportive of colleagues and of group initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated interest in collection development, information literacy and research support (including research data management), with significant experience in one or more of these areas.
  • Passion for promoting the use of library collections and services.
