Full-Time Senior Librarian/ Librarian, Discovery and Access – SUSS Library


Job Description

The Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) Library seeks a knowledgeable and innovative professional to provide leadership and expertise for a range of services supporting the user discovery and access experience across multiple platforms. The successful candidate will also coordinate library analytics and assessment activities. He or she will work collaboratively with staff to deliver timely access to information resources and services that support the learning, teaching and research activities of the SUSS community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies and initiatives for the description, discovery and provision of access to electronic resources, digital content and other formats.
  • Create, transform, activate, and perform quality control of the information related to licensed and open access electronic resources and other formats within the Library’s management system, discovery service, link resolver, and the library catalogue.
  • Work with publishers, vendors and aggregators to establish and maintain access to electronic holdings and resolve access problems.
  • Coordinate the design, collection, analysis and reporting of data gathered from various sources including library systems, vendor statistics, surveys and web analytics to support assessment and evidence-based decision making and service provision.
  • Prepare, analyse, monitor and report on the use and discovery of collections.
  • Establish policies, standards/ schemas, practices, procedures and workflows for metadata and discovery services, and ensure operational efficiency and compliance with University policies. Provide training to staff as required.
  • Perform collection development, reference and other liaison activities for assigned subject areas.
  • Provide research assistance and instruction services. May involve evening/ weekend virtual desk shifts.
  • Create and maintain assigned online research guides and web content to support student research needs.
  • Promote library services through the library’s digital engagement platforms.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging standards and developments relevant to academic libraries and higher education, particularly in the areas of metadata standards, cataloguing practices, and electronic resources management, and recommend best practices for a digital-first library.
  • Lead and/ or participate in library-wide initiatives and projects.
  • Engage in continuous professional development, and serve the Library and University through representation on internal and external committees, where required.
  • Other accountabilities or duties as assigned by Director, Digital Library Services (University Librarian).


  • Master’s degree in library science or information management.
  • Recognised degree, preferably in the sciences, social sciences or humanities.
  • 3-5 years of experience in cataloguing/ metadata services and electronic resource management as well as the provision of library services including instructional, reference/ research support and outreach services, preferably in an academic library setting.
  • Experience working with ERM systems, linking and authentication tools, and discovery interfaces, e.g., Alma, Primo.
  • Knowledge of resource description and electronic resources standards and protocols such as RDA, MARC 21, XML, SUSHI, COUNTER and OpenURL.
  • Proficient in the use of technology, analytics tools, and social media.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly service-oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to effectively supervise, mentor and train staff.
  • Ability to work independently as well as foster teamwork and collaboration with internal and external parties.
  • Ability to take a user-centred approach in the provision of library services.
  • Ability to thrive in an evolving work environment.
  • Keen interest in emerging library and digital trends and technologies.
