Job Description

Applications are invited for the appointment of a Research Librarian, Economics in the Li Ka Shing Library, Singapore Management University (SMU).

SMU is a young and dynamic university and the Library plays a vital role in supporting the SMU’s teaching, learning and research activities. The Library engages with the communityto foster scholarship and strengthens the culture of collaboration and partnership within the University.

This role provides an exciting opportunity for an innovative and experienced professional librarian tocollaborate with the SMU community to provide convenient access to quality information, and to manage and provide access to SMU scholarship.  The Library provides information services that are customisable to individual needs and which recognise disciplinary perspectives and their information requirements.

This position serves as the liaison for faculty and students from the School of Economics and related programs. The position holder works in a team environment to create and develop innovative library products and services for the SMU community.

He/she is expected to design, implement and evaluate information literacy programmes for students (undergraduate and postgraduate) both as part of the curriculum and for skills development.


  1. MSc in library and information science and an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline plus relevant experience in an academic setting
  2. An understanding of current trends in Research, Learning and Teaching within an academic institution
  3. Highly developed skills in the use of current technologies for the delivery of information services
  4. Knowledge of the principles of assessment and methods used in  assessment on the design and implementation of appropriate services and  resource development
  5. Ability to design, deliver and evaluate information literacy training programmes relevant to individuals and groups at different levels
  6. Familiarity with writing and citing process, especially in research or academic setting.
  7. Demonstrated experience in library marketing, outreach and promotion trends and activities
  8. Creative and innovative with the ability to work with minimum supervision.
  9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  10. Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relations with faculty and staff and the wider SMU community
  11. High level of professionalism and commitment to the organization and the ability to work flexibly in a changing environment
