Job Description

NLB Knowledge Organisation System – Pay Per Piece Scheme

The National Library Board (NLB) is looking for vendor(s) to develop, edit and maintain controlled vocabularies and name authority records for NLB Knowledge Organization System (KOS).

About Knowledge Organisation System

Knowledge Organisation System  covers the implementation and quality control of controlled vocabulary and authority records for describing the NLB’s digital content, of a wide range of topics and domains, in a consistent and accurate manner so that library users know what is in NLB’s collection and are able to find the content.

It is responsible for the development, maintenance and promotion of the following vocabularies:

–           Subjects thesaurus

–           People

–           Organisations

–           Streets (“Geographics”)

–           Buildings (“GeoBuildings”)

–           Events

–           Programmes

–           Legislative acts

–           Language

–           Countries

–           SingHeritage taxonomy

–           NLB Collections

–           NLB Types

–           EventTypes   

Minimum Application Requirements

–           Bachelor degree from a recognised university;

–           2 to 5 years of relevant cataloguing experience will be an advantage;

–           Preferably with relevant qualification or experience in translation in minimally one of Singapore’s official languages;

–           Written proficiency in English and one mother tongue language (Chinese, Malay or Tamil);

–           Good research writing and/or editing skills /experience;

–           Good working knowledge and/or interest in Singapore history and current affairs;

–           Familiarity with web-based system and PC environment;

–           Knowledge of Extensible Markup Language (xml) will be an added advantage;

–           Meticulous, ability to work independently and meet deadlines and a responsible worker
