Full-Time Librarian/Senior Librarian – Scholarly Comm Group – NTU Libraries

Job Description

The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Libraries invites applications for the position of Librarian or Senior Librarian in our Scholarly Communication Group. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and execution of robust research data management services, including research data curation, research data management related instruction, consultancy and outreach and open data advocacy. Applicants should have a strong interest in opening and digging into research datasets, working with the data producers, researching what the data files are meant to do in order to understand how best to document them.

Key responsibilities :​

• Assist to develop, document and execute policies and workflows relating to the collection, curation and preservation of digital datasets in the NTU Data Repository.
• Help faculty and students to share and publish data. Advise about appropriate repositories for selecting and storing data.
• Work with faculty and students who require support for research involving data (including but not limited to geospatial, demographic, and economic research), assistance creating and following data management plans required by NTU and funding agencies, and/or training in related tools and software.
• Offer instruction on topics such as data management planning, file management, data citation, data licensing and scientific data visualization.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge about research data management tools and techniques and integrate that knowledge into other duties, including updating user guides.

Qualifications/Requirements :​

• Bachelor’s degree (preferably in an information communication technology area) and MSc in Information Studies or willingness to undertake upon hire as an Assistant Librarian*
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience using geospatial, demographic and quantitative data and related tools (e.g. Google Map API, ArcGIS or QGIS) preferred
• Experience with statistical software packages (e.g. R or SPSS) preferred
• Familiarity with at least one metadata standard e.g. Dublin Core
• Excellent communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated success with self-directed learning and project management
• Experience in an academic library or with academic researchers preferred

*Note: Applicants without the MSc/MLIS are invited to apply if willing to undertake the professional qualification on a part-time basis while working as Assistant Librarian.
