Full-Time Librarian/Senior Librarian – Research & Instructional Services

Job Description

The NIE Library and Information Services Centre is seeking creative, innovative and service-oriented candidates who are able to work independently and collaboratively in transforming the library for the 21st century.

The position provides information and instructional services, develops content for the library portal and digital repository, promotes scholarly communication initiatives, and serves as a library liaison to meet the teaching, learning and research needs of the NIE community.


A good University degree and a recognised postgraduate qualification in Library and/or Information Science, preferably with teaching experience and working knowledge of library portals and digital repositories in an academic library environment.
• Good interpersonal, communication (oral and written) and organisational skills
• Strong customer service orientation
• Keen learner who is adaptable, and able to work independently and in a team
• Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
• Ability to analyse and derive insights from statistical reports and usage data
• Experience in government ITQ (Invitation to Quote)/tendering/writing proposals will be an added advantage

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with academic and library staff to plan, develop, deliver and assess instructional and outreach programmes
• Contribute to planning and development of user guides, instructional resources and delivery tools, including content creation and interface design for LibGuides
• Contribute to handling of reference enquiries and research consultations, including content creation and interface design for LibFAQs, an online enquiry platform
• Assist in content development and interface design for library portal to facilitate access to library resources and services
• Responsible for assigned digitisation projects, including setting standards for digitisation of resources and creation of metadata
• Work with academic and library staff to increase awareness about scholarly communication issues in the digital environment

General and liaison duties

• Foster communication between the Library and designated Academic Groups
• Participate in collection development, including identifying, evaluating and recommending library resources
• Liaise with NIE community to recruit content for the NIE Library digital repository
• Communicate, plan and deliver library events and promotional activities
• Provide information desk services on scheduled evenings and weekends
• Contribute in library projects, peer training and staff development

Candidate with proven track record may be appointed as team lead for one or more of the key responsibilities. Candidate without the professional qualification may be appointed as Assistant Librarian and sponsored for the postgraduate course in Library and Information Science.
