Job Description

The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Librarian/Senior Librarian in the Library & Information Services Centre.
We are seeking creative, service-oriented and highly motivated librarians or senior librarians who have an eye for details to become part of our team. Candidates must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment. The following positions are available:

Position 1
This position manages the Library’s monograph budget to develop, source and acquire monographic materials for the curriculum and research needs of the Institute.

Requirements
A good university degree and a recognised postgraduate qualification in Library and/or Information Science, preferably with at least 3 years’ working knowledge of Acquisitions and Cataloguing in an academic environment.
University graduates without relevant experience or library qualifications may also apply for the post of Assistant Librarian. The successful candidate may be supported to complete a Master degree in Information studies on a part-time basis.

Responsibilities
The job scope includes:

  • Managing acquisitions and cataloguing workflow and processes for both monograph print and electronic resources.
  • Library’s liaison to faculty for collection development of specialized subject content.
  • Assisting in annual budget planning and managing the library resources monograph budget.
  • Supervising and managing team members.
  • Providing information desk services on scheduled evenings and weekends.
  • Analysing usage patterns and statistics of library resources, and communicating findings to senior management.
  • Collaborating on library projects, peer training and staff development.

Position 2
This position provides information and instructional services; develops digital resources and web content; and coordinates outreach initiatives to meet the teaching, learning and research needs of the NIE community. ¬¬

Requirements
A good university degree and a recognised postgraduate qualification in Library and/or Information Science, preferably with at least 2 years’ working knowledge in Institutional Repository and Information Services in an academic environment. Teaching experience will be an advantage. University graduates without relevant experience or library qualifications may also apply for the post of Assistant Librarian. The successful candidate may be supported to complete a Master degree in Information studies on a part-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with academic and library staff to plan, develop, deliver and assess instructional and outreach programmes.
  • Developing content for library portal and digital repository, including setting standards for digitisation of resources and creation of metadata.
  • Participating in collection development and organisation, including identifying, evaluating and publicity of library resources.
  • Providing information desk services on scheduled evenings and weekends.
  • Analysing usage patterns and statistics of library resources, and communicating findings to senior management.
  • Participating in budget planning and management.
  • Supervising and managing team members.
  • Collaborating on library projects, peer training and staff development.
