The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) invites nominations and applications for the position of Librarian.

The University
Established by the Government in 1989, The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) has five academic units, namely the School of Arts & Social Sciences, Lee Shau Kee School of Business & Administration, School of Education & Languages, School of Science & Technology, and the Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional & Continuing Education.  Through them, we provide full-time and part-time programmes at undergraduate, post-graduate, and sub-degree levels.

Today we have over 9,500 full-time and 10,000 part-time students in the four Schools at the OUHK with about 220 programmes of studies.  In addition, there are about 2,500 full-time/part-time students studying in our extension arm.  The OUHK spirit is a culmination of a relentless pursuit of academic excellence and a creative approach to learning and teaching.  Reaching out to our next generation and across the borders through advanced web technologies has been our principal goal in the past years.

The Position
The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) seeks a Librarian responsible for planning, implementing, directing, and evaluating all aspects of library services for both the University Main campus and Jockey Club campus.  Reporting to the Associate Vice President, the Librarian will provide strategic leadership to ensure adequate and quality library services for the OUHK community. He/she will be a key member of the University management and will contribute to the University governance, while working collaboratively with the academic units to provide convenient access to scholarly resources and quality user services.  He/she will also engage in meaningful activities for outreaching to the academic libraries in Hong Kong and the region for better services and for enhancing the reputation of the University.

The Requirements

  • A recognized degree plus a professional qualification (e.g. MLS, MCILIP or AALIA);
  • Substantial professional experience in academic libraries, including senior management responsibilities in people management, project management and budget management (especially within complex budgetary systems);
  • Record of library professional engagement at various levels and scopes;
  • Knowledge of current issues in academic librarianship and higher education;
  • Ability and commitment to supporting university curriculum through development of collections in various formats;
  • Ability and commitment to enhancing library user experience through adoption of new technology and provision of library services that meet the users’ need; and
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communications in English and preferably Chinese.

Remuneration Package
The University will offer the right candidate an attractive remuneration package which includes annual leave, medical & dental benefits, contract-end gratuity and life insurance coverage.  The successful candidate will be appointed on a fixed-term contract (renewal subject to mutual consent).
