Job Description

Position Title: Librarian (Cataloguing)

Responsibilities

• Implement and manage bibliographic and metadata practices in NLB
• Organise digital and physical materials in Tamil and English to facilitate easy access and retrieval
• Develop, review and update language metadata standards, cataloguing policies and process/guidelines
• Identify trends and incorporate new cataloguing standards/practices into cataloguing rules and maintain/develop policies for local practices when required
• Conduct training to internal and external parties in metadata cataloguing
• Contribute quality bibliographic, metadata and authority records including the creation of Singapore National Bibliography
• Indexing for Index to Singapore Information, create controlled vocabularies and contribute to the planning of library services
• Lead and manage a team of cataloguers, including resolving escalated administrative/operational issues, providing guidance and developing staff’s domain knowledge
• Participate in and lead projects across departments and divisions
• Collate and compiling monthly and annual statistical reports for language resources

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant experience in cataloguing of print and digital materials in Tamil and English
• Skills in interpreting the information needs of users/clients
• Good command of English and Tamil for cataloguing of library collections
• Good team player
• Good networking & communication skills
• Meticulous and analytical

The successful applicant will be appointed on a 2 year contract.
