Most will agree that 2020 has been a challenging year for most, even at libraries. However, it was also a time where libraries looked towards new ways to engage users. Rounding up the year, we recap on what the Publications Committee has been doing to continue keeping fellow librarians informed of happenings at libraries or past events. Hopefully the articles have encouraged us to continue innovating and connecting with our counterparts in libraries across Singapore.
With the pandemic, libraries were forced to quickly adapt to the situation as premises were asked to close. Fortunately, many libraries have been building on their e-collections and a few libraries shared on what they had to continue providing resources to their users in our special “In Light of Covid-19” series.
In 2020, we also had less opportunities to get to know or see each other. You might not have had the chance to meet the Council members, but we released a series of “Get to Know Your 2019-2021 Council Members” in the earlier half of the year interviewing some of them.
With physical gatherings restricted, our programmes and training committees have also been working hard to bring you online programmes. I hope members had the opportunity to participate in them. The committees have provided summaries of two of the events, Creating Your Desired Retirement talk and Intro to Skilltype for LAS, for those who missed them.
On top of these, we had the usual contributions of conference and meeting sharings, library collection highlights, operational and service innovations.
Aside from the Bulletin, the Publications Committee has also been working on a 65th anniversary e-book. Do look out for it when it’s out. 🙂
I hope 2021 bodes better days as we continue to serve our users and readers. If you would like contribute an article on the Bulletin, please visit http://www.las.org.sg/wp/publications/bulletin-how-to-contribute/ on how you can contribute. We look forward to hearing more from the libraries and librarians.
All the best!
