New Media Viewing Experience at SP

The typical student usually considers the library as a hangout either around periods when examinations are looming or project deadlines are drawing near. Here at Singapore Polytechnic (SP), not only are there the latest captivating books and multimedia materials added to the library’s collection, the students now have an additional reason to frequent the SP Library!

Recently, a new Media Viewing Zone has been launched. The Zone, at Level 3 of the Main Library, houses 13 media viewing stations that aim to heighten one’s audio-visual viewing experience. Equipped with flat screen television sets that project the clearest images, high-tech headphones that amplify the slightest decibel, and sofas that are kind on one’s aching spine after a tiring day of learning in school, the Media Viewing Zone has become a popular location in the Library.

Students can gather with their friends or project mates after lessons and meetings to de-stress and soothe those occasional conflicting viewpoints by enjoying a movie together in one of the two Group Viewing Rooms. Teaching staff are also able to use these rooms to show feature films and training programmes to their students as part of a class activity for modules such as Film Appreciation and Critical Reasoning Skills. The Media Viewing Zone is completely self-service. Access is through tapping a RFID Access Card obtainable from the Loans Counter.

Next month, students can look forward to more new services at the Media Viewing Zone when the latest news broadcast and Discovery Channel are introduced.
