October is the month of PSLE (Primary School Leaving Examinations) with our primary 6 pupils taking the exams whilst some concerned parents are debating the issues over stress of the PSLE in the forums and our newspapers.
More importantly, there is the Library 2.012 Worldwide Virtual Conference (3 to 5 October) – yes it starts today! It is free for all to attend and it’s on the web, you just need an internet access. We have some speakers from Singapore presenting keynotes on Oct 4, 3pm. For those interested, please check out the website at www.library2012.com the Singapore Schedule is available at www.library20.com/page/library-2-0-schedule-gmt-8-1
There is also a professional talk planned for 11 October 2012 at the National Library Building, Basement 1 Multi-Purpose Room. This time round Dr Ismail Serageldin, the Director of Library of Alexandria has been invited to speak with us about the Rebirth of the Library of Alexandria and on the Future of Libraries. This event will contribute about 46 points under the LAS PDS scheme.
Call for contribution of 100-word stories
For our WLIC2013 publication project, we are looking to produce a souvenir for the delegates – we are aiming for a publication titled “Memories are made of these: 100-word stories from 100 Librarians”. So we need stories! Lots of them, so we can choose the best 100 to present to our friends from around the world. All librarians are invited to submit their stories (you may submit more than 1 and don’t worry about meeting the 100-word limit exactly, we will have an editorial team that can help you adjust it neatly – what we need are your keypoints about your unique experience, interesting events, or even other librarians whom may have inspired you in your career). Please send your enquiries and submissions to publications@las.org.sg
