Hi all,
It’s IFLA WLIC2013 month and yes, we will be rather busy but hopefully, I am hoping to be able to post somethings as the events go by daily.
Last evening, I had the opportunity to join the ASEAN Caucus (the first time ASEAN got its own caucus at IFLA!). It was interesting to note that Gene Tan, Director, National Library Singapore and various other invited speakers talk about the plans for the National Library Asia Pacifc Platform (NLAPP) – tentatively codenamed Asia Pacifica. We are trying to model after something what the European Union has build in Europeana.
We will be getting help from Andy Neal, one of the librarians working on the Digital NZ project, to support the initiative. Last evening, we heard that 6 ASEAN countries have already committed to join as well as 6 ASIAN countries have also indicated their interest to participate in this.
The larger objective is to enable our users to be able to find our digital resources across our collections. For starters, the project will begin with National Libraries but the ultimate aim is to include all digital resources from all available and supporting institutions in the Asia Pacific.
It is also heartening to hear that we had the blessings of the ASEAN COCI which had put in funding support for the initial pilot of this project.
In the meantime, here’s wishing all WLIC2013 delegates a fruitful conference!
