Amendments to the Singapore Copyright Act: Exceptions and User Rights for the Academic Sector

Singapore Management University Libraries and Singapore Alliance of University Libraries warmly invite you to this seminar which addresses relevant exceptions in the new Singapore 2021 Copyright Act for the academic sector. Industry experts will speak on educational exceptions for teaching and learning, along with a panel discussion on the new provision which pertains to computational data analysis for text and data mining.

Join us to learn more about copyright awareness, the new Act, and the potential implications for academics and librarians in Singapore.

Speakers from the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Copyright Committee will address the key changes in the 2021 Singapore Copyright Act in terms of educational exceptions and also discuss the application of copyright in various teaching and learning scenarios.

 3.00pm Panel Discussion on Text & Data Mining 

The new Copyright Law enacted in 2021 comes with a Computational Data Analysis provision, enabling anyone with legal access to content, to conduct text and data mining analysis. The new provision will potentially create many new opportunities for libraries and researchers in their scientific endeavours. This panel presents three different perspectives (academic, government, and libraries) that will discuss the impact, the practical implications, and the possible scenarios that this new provision will create for Singapore’s research landscape.
