Job Description
The Li Ka Shing Library invites dynamic, innovative and service-oriented individuals to apply for the position of Manager, Information Technology Services, Library.
The position provides strategic directions and professional leadership in the assessment of new and emerging technologies to achieve SMU’s teaching, learning and research goals. The key accountability for this position is to define and recommend workable, forward-thinking and innovative ICT strategies and solutions to ensure that SMU Library maintains its competitive advantage through the deployment of technology.
The position reports to the University Librarian and is required to work closely with all Library teams, the SMU’s Integrated Information Technology Services (IITS) and various vendors.
Requirements
- MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program (or an equivalent qualification) with three years of related experience with preferably a degree in Computer Science or IT related bachelors degree or equivalent experience and education
- Experience in administration of large-scale Library Management System (LMS), preferably from an academic research library perspective
- Good knowledge of library functions and processes with the ability to advise or recommend IT solutions
- Strong project management and vendor management skills are essential
- Strategic and creative thinker
- Experience with a wide range of technologies and applications with an open mind to learn and explore new areas and opportunities
- Ability to implement innovative solutions in an information systems environment
- Initiative, adaptability and responsiveness to change.
- Leadership and supervisory skills
- Required competencies, include accountability, clear communication, courage, self-awareness, valuing diversity, working in a team
- Knowledge of Millennium Integrated Library Management System is an advantage
- Knowledge of Library standards and protocols such as OAIPMH, Z39.50, Marc21 and Metadata and XML
Responsibilities
- Administration and support of Library Management System
- Liaison person with system-related vendors on system administration.
- Be part of a team responsible for the implementation, administration, upgrading and maintenance of the LMS and its various modules.
- Evaluate and implement new Library system products and applications
- Liaise with IITS on matters related to the Library Management System
- Design, development, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of inhouse Library applications
- Research & development in the areas of various library technologies, outsourced applications and support for such applications
- Support of digital information services used at the University in terms of their interface with the Library applications
- Design and implement business continuity plans for library systems
- Monitor performance and service levels of library technology vendors and negotiate for better value for the University and the library
- Other Duties
- Partner with Library staff, IITS staff and vendors on new Library technology projects.
- Train Library staff and SMU community in the use of Library applications.
- Lead and manage human resources
- Any other duties as assigned by University Librarian and senior library staff.
